This Month's Thought of the Month: Back to School-It may be a funny image for some of us to imagine walking to the bus stop with our little nap sacks and lunch boxes but seeing the little ones in my neighborhood go off to school this week reminded me about the value of being a life long learner. You are never too old to learn something new! We can always learn new things about our business-isn't that what makes everyday challenging and at the same time--fun? So this week as you watch the little ones go off to school ask yourself......what article can I read today? what short course can I sign up for? what new technique can I use today that will help me be better at my job? ..........now if I could only find my old Superman lunch box?

On the Front Lines of Service

This Month's On the Front Lines of Service: Letting Your Front Line Players Really Be in Charge-We keep seeing this over and over again--successful operators trusting in the judgment of their front line players to ensure the delivery of great service! Recently we read about a guest at a Hamburger Hamlet unit ordering his hamburger served with all the toppings on the side--when it came out--of course--it had been piled high with all the toppings. The server apologized, fixed the problem and then totally blew the guest away when he presented the check without the charge for burger! The server was actually in charge of service! These guys get it!!!!

Letting your servers really be in charge of taking care of their guests---not only helps build their gratuity ---but more importantly builds the reputation of your commitment for delivering on service excellence. Let them be in charge!!!

Building Leadership Skills

  • Your employees representing you out in community. Our young people want to do something to help their community. Help them to do this and at the same time promote your business-These will be the best marketing dollars you'll ever invest!
