| Thought of the Month
Each One Teach One-The
other day I saw a TV spot promoting and celebrating National
Mentoring Month. Quincy Jones, the world famous music
producer, composer, and producer talked about how he was mentored as
a kid and what it meant to him. It's no wonder that he has spent his
entire adult life mentoring others. Of course we hear all about the
famous people he helped when they were unknowns like Will Smith and
Oprah. What we don't hear about are the countless young people that
he has reached out to. A few years ago he took a group of at-risk
teens from LA to South Africa where they met Nelson Mandela and
helped build homes for Habitat for Humanity. The experience changed
their lives. At the end of this TV spot Quincy Jones looks into the
camera and says....."think about it--if each one of us mentored
just one person--what a difference we could make". Maybe this
year--our goal should be to simply follow Quincy's advice--each
one teach one!
